Medical Laboratory Manager (Healthcare Sciences)

Position Title: Medical Laboratory Manager

Shift: Full Time/Monday-Friday 3rd Shift 10pm-6:30am

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Medical Laboratory Supervisor (Healthcare Sciences)

Job Responsibilities

As a Night Shift Supervisor  you will be responsible for overseeing laboratory testing, analyzing, reviewing, and reporting test results and quality control results, as well as taking remedial action when indicated. You will ensure specimen integrity by following proper procedures for specimen handling and processing, as well as adhering to policies and procedures to include departmental programs, quality control, quality assurance, and safety.


Additional responsibilities of the Medical Laboratory Supervisor include:


·       Supervising 3rd Shift activities in a diagnostic laboratory, with responsibility for achieving timeline for reporting results to client, revenue and profitability goals.   

·       Supervision of staff, assigning work, establishing performance metrics, monitoring activities and evaluating performance.  Resolves escalated issues. 

·       Provide quality assurance, quality control, and proficiency testing functions to meet all regulatory and accreditation standards

·       Tabulates statistical data

·       Ensures critical values are communicated

·       Provide direction by communicating with staff

·       Create a cohesive environment and promote teamwork within the department

·       Maintain and troubleshoot instruments

·       Develop and update departmental policies and procedures

·       Ensure safety standards and proper work habits are enforced

·       Act as working manager that requires a physical presence in the laboratory

·       Manage multiple projects concurrently and set priorities in a fast-changing, results-oriented environment

·       Ensure timely review, release and printing of client reports

·       Evaluate quality of administration so performance standards are maintained for reporting test results, documenting validity, reliability, accuracy, precision, and performance characteristics of each test and each test system

·       Ensure remedial action is taken promptly when test do not perform to specification

·       Conduct self in and appropriate, professional manner and communicate timely with management and clients

·       Directs compliance of regulation standards and changes in test procedures

·       Coordinate company objectives with CLIA standards and establish lab priorities

·       Represent company for regulatory agencies such as CLIA, and CAP, including responsibility for regulatory inspections.

Laboratory Supervisor Job Requirements

Successful candidates for the Medical Laboratory Supervisor will have an Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Science or related course of study.

Additional requirements of the Medical Laboratory Supervisor role include:

  • 5 years of experience in clinical laboratory leadership/supervisory/Senior/Lead
  • Effective leadership skills, with the ability to motivate employees to meet and/or exceed performance expectations, and recognize star performers
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience as a laboratory tech with strong skills in hematology/chemistry/coagulation/urinalysis
